SERVICING OF DOUBLE
INSULATED APPLIANCES
In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of
insulation are provided instead of grounding. No
grounding means is provided on a double-insulated
appliance, nor should a means for grounding be
added to the appliance. Servicing a double-
insulated appliance requires extreme care and
knowledge of the system, and should be done only
by qualified service personnel. Replacement parts
for a double-insulated appliance must be identical
to the parts they replace. A double-insulated
appliance is marked with the words "DOUBLE
INSULATION" or "DOUBLE INSULATED," The
symbol (square within a square)
may also be
marked on the appliance.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
VOLTAGE WARNING: Before connecting the
appliance to a power source (receptacle, outlet, etc.)
be sure the voltage supplied is the same as that
specified on the nameplate of the appliance. A
power source with voltage greater than that
specified for the appliance can result in SERIOUS
INJURY to the user - as well as damage to the
appliance. If in doubt, DO NOT PLUG IN THE
APPLIANCE. Using a power source with voltage
less than the nameplate rating is harmful to the
motor.
USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Make sure your
extension cord is in good condition. When using an
extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to
carry the current your product will draw. An
undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage
resulting in loss of power and overheating. Table 1
shows the correct size to use depending on cord
length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use
the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage number,
the heavier the cord.
